Day 0
Arrival & Equipment Check

Use this day to rest and hydrate. Proper hydration helps with altitude adjustment. Meet and discuss with your guide about any concerns regarding gear, altitude, or route. Optional: Visit a local market or cultural site in Moshi if time permits to enrich your experience.

Day 1
Umbwe Gate to Cave Bivouac Camp

Drive to Umbwe Gate and begin the steep ascent through magnificent moss-covered forests. Trek to Cave Bivouac Camp (~5-6 hrs, 11 km). Elevation: 1,800m to 2,940m. Maximize acclimatization: Take your time during the hike; don't rush. Use the time at camp to rest and hydrate. Photography: Capture the moss-covered forests and early views of Kilimanjaro. Nutrition: Eat well and stay hydrated to prepare for higher altitudes.

Day 2
Cave Bivouac to Barranco Camp

Continue ascending through increasingly sparse vegetation with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape. Arrive at Barranco Camp (~4-5 hrs, 6 km). Elevation: 2,940m to 3,950m. Enjoy the scenery: The Barranco Valley is scenic—take breaks and enjoy the views of giant lobelias and senecios. Stay Hydrated & Energized: Keep drinking water and eating small snacks to maintain energy. Early rest: Sleep early to conserve energy for the next day's challenging Barranco Wall scramble.

Day 3
Barranco to Karanga Valley

Conquer the famous Barranco Wall, then descend into the Karanga Valley. A shorter hiking day to aid acclimatization (~4-5 hrs, 5 km). Elevation: 3,950m to 3,995m. Conquer Barranco Wall early: Tackle it with focus and caution, using your hands where needed. Pace yourself: The hike is short but steep; take breaks as necessary. Acclimatize: This day helps your body adapt; listen to your body and avoid overexertion.

Day 4
Karanga Valley to Barafu Camp

Continue to Barafu Camp, the base camp for your summit attempt. Rest and prepare for the midnight start (~3-4 hrs, 4 km). Elevation: 3,995m to 4,673m. View glaciers: Take time to appreciate the glaciers and surrounding peaks. Rest well: Try to sleep early to prepare for the midnight summit attempt. Hydration & Nutrition: Keep drinking water and eat a high-energy dinner to fuel the summit push.

Day 5
Summit Day (Barafu to Uhuru Peak & Descent to Mweka Camp)

Midnight start for Uhuru Peak (~5-7 hrs hike). Watch sunrise from the roof of Africa. Descend to Mweka Camp (~5-6 hrs). Elevation: 4,673m to 5,895m then down to 3,100m. Midnight summit: Use headlamps, pace steadily, and focus on breathing. Altitude management: Take short breaks and avoid overexertion. Stay warm: Dress in layers for the cold summit. Photos & Celebration: Capture moments at Uhuru Peak. Descent: Use trekking poles if available, and descend carefully to prevent injuries. Recovery: Once at Mweka Camp, hydrate, and rest thoroughly.

Day 6
Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate

Descend to park gate (~3-4 hrs, 10 km). Receive summit certificates. Transfer back to Moshi hotel for celebration and rest. Enjoy the forest walk: The descent through lush forest is refreshing.
