5-Day Honeymoon Escape

Arusha → Ngorongoro Highlands → Serengeti → Arusha

This is the honeymoon safari. Five days, two parks, and a pace that leaves room for romance. You spend your days in the Serengeti and Ngorongoro Crater, with private game drives and candlelit dinners. The lodges are luxury. The guide is private. The schedule is flexible. No middleman, no hidden fees.

Why this honeymoon safari

The Serengeti is the most romantic place in Africa. The sunsets are spectacular, the wildlife is abundant, and the lodges are designed for couples. You'll wake up to the sounds of the bush. You'll have private candlelit dinners under the stars. You'll watch lions at sunset and elephants at sunrise.

The Ngorongoro Crater adds a different dimension. It's a natural amphitheater with the highest density of large mammals in Africa. You'll descend at sunrise, when the predators are most active. This is a private safari, so the vehicle and guide are yours.

Ngorongoro highlands

Hussein picks you up from your Arusha hotel. The drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area takes about three hours. You pass through the town of Karatu and climb into the highlands. The air gets cooler as you ascend.

You check into your luxury lodge in the Ngorongoro highlands. The view from the terrace is the first thing you notice — the crater rim in the distance. The room is decorated for your arrival. A bottle of sparkling wine waits on ice. The evening is yours — private dinner on the terrace, the sounds of the bush around you.

Good to know 3-hour drive from Arusha. Lunch and dinner included. Overnight at a luxury lodge in Ngorongoro highlands.
Ngorongoro Crater

You're up before sunrise. The lodge packs a breakfast box because you want to be at the descent road by 6:30. The mist sits low over the crater floor as you drive down.

The crater is 260 square kilometers of grassland, swamps, and lakes. The wildlife is everywhere — lions on the plains, elephants in the forest, hippos in the lakes, rhinos in the grasslands. You have the whole morning to explore. The guide knows the crater floor like the back of his hand.

After lunch, you ascend and drive to the Serengeti. You check into your luxury tented camp. The tents are large, with proper beds and en-suite bathrooms. The camp feels private and secluded.

Good to know Full morning crater drive, 3-hour drive to Serengeti. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at luxury tented camp in Serengeti.
Serengeti lion family

Wake before sunrise for a morning game drive. The early hours are the best time for wildlife photography and predator sightings. The light is soft and golden. You track lions, cheetahs, and leopards based on the morning radio reports.

Return to camp for lunch, or carry a picnic depending on your preference. The afternoon is slower — you find a spot near a waterhole and watch the animals come and go. The migration moves constantly, and your guide adjusts the route based on where the herds are.

By evening, you return to camp for a private sundowner and candlelit bush dinner. The table is set under the stars. The food is local and fresh. The wine is good.

Good to know Full day of private game driving. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at luxury tented camp in Serengeti.
Serengeti cheetah family

Another full day in the Serengeti. The second full day removes the pressure to see everything in one day. Your guide can position the drive around the current location of wildebeest and zebra herds, or concentrate on resident wildlife in Central Serengeti.

You stop for a private picnic in the bush. A thermos of coffee, sandwiches, the windows down. The wildlife carries on around you — zebras grazing nearby, birds calling from the acacia trees. The afternoon is spent exploring a different area of the park.

Return to camp for another private dinner. The evening is quiet. The stars are bright.

Good to know Full day of private game driving. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner included. Overnight at luxury tented camp in Serengeti.

Final morning game drive. One last chance to see the wildlife in the golden light. The predators are still active, the herds are still moving. You take the time to absorb the sights and sounds.

Return to camp for breakfast, pack up, and start the drive back to Arusha. The drive takes about six hours, with a stop for lunch along the way. Drop-off at your hotel or Kilimanjaro Airport.

Best time for a honeymoon safari

The Serengeti and Ngorongoro are open year-round. The wildlife moves with the seasons.

  • June to October. Dry season. Clear skies, spectacular sunsets, and wildlife gathers around water sources. Peak season for honeymoons.
  • November to May. Green season. Lush landscapes, fewer tourists, lower rates. The Serengeti is green and romantic.
  • January to February. Calving season. The wildebeest give birth in the southern Serengeti. Predator action is intense.
